Bow Windows

Bow windows are very similar to bay windows, which is why they are often confused with one another. However, although similar in more ways than one, each has distinct features that set them apart from the other. A bow window differs from a bay window in the angle at which it is installed. A bow window configuration consists of four or more window units as compared to a bay window which only has three. In addition, with bow windows, the individual window units are joined together in order to form an arc, thus the name.

Bay-Bow-WindowMainly because of this design, bow windows are the ideal choice when the main objective is to spruce up the design element of a house or building. Just like bay windows, they offer extra space inside a room that is often maximized by the placement of ornaments and houseplants. In many cases, however, the extra space is used to create a cozy and relaxing nook by the window.

One of the biggest selling points of bow windows is their ability to let a significant amount of natural light into the home.

Among the choices of materials used for bow windows, vinyl is the most popular although fiberglass is not far behind. Today, bow replacement windows are available in several varieties and come in a number of features.

If you are looking to have bow windows installed in your home, you might want to consider those that can be opened from either side. Also, those that come with double-paned glass are great choices for improved insulation. With these bow windows, you will have the chance not only to boost the curb appeal of your home, but improve its overall energy efficiency as well.
